March's older terraced streets and Victorian town-centre properties produce a steady demand for proper chimney rebuilds — not just repointing that buys another few winters.
Much of March's housing stock dates from the late Victorian and Edwardian expansion of the town, when the railway brought workers and brickwork was laid at pace. Those chimney stacks have now reached the age where spalling courses, open mortar joints and visible lean are common, particularly on the north-facing sides exposed to fenland winds coming off the surrounding flat carr land. A patch-and-hope approach rarely lasts more than a season here.
