Mildenhall's older housing — from the flint-and-brick cottages near the market place to the post-war estates built to house RAF families — presents a wide range of chimney conditions, many now well overdue for a full rebuild.
The historic core of Mildenhall around the Market Place includes properties with flint rubble and brick-quoin construction where chimney stacks have been repaired piecemeal over generations. That repeated patching often leaves a stack that looks passable from the street but has open joints, failed lime beds and no functioning DPC at roof level. Stacks on the detached and semi-detached houses built through the 1950s to 1970s around Queensway and beyond are now at the age where rebuilt rather than repointed is the only honest advice.
We rebuild using brick matched to the existing courses and install a new lead DPC, properly stepped and soaked lead flashings and a suitable terminal or pot. Mildenhall town centre, Beck Row, West Row and the villages toward the fens are all within our regular working area.
