Haddenham is one of the more characterful Fenland villages, and its older housing stock means redundant chimney stacks are a common sight — and a common problem.
The village has a strong core of traditional brick-built farmhouses and former agricultural cottages, many of which had multiple chimney stacks serving long-disused ranges and open hearths. Stacks like these, once the fires are gone, deteriorate quickly in Haddenham's exposed position above the Fens — frost gets into the pointing, lead flashings lift, and the whole structure can become unstable within a few years of being sealed off.
We carry out full chimney take-downs to below roof level, re-cut the rafters if needed, and finish with a neat tile or slate repair that holds up properly. Haddenham roofs often feature plain clay tiles, and we keep a stock of reclaimed materials to match.
